Metacognitive control in single- vs. dual-process theory

چکیده

Recent work in cognitive modelling has found that most of the data been cited as evidence for dual-process theory (DPT) reasoning is best explained by non-linear, “monotonic” one-process models. In this paper, I consider an important caveat research: it uses models are committed to unrealistic assumptions about how effectively task conditions can isolate Type-1 and Type-2 reasoning. To avoid caveat, develop a coordinated theoretical, experimental, strategy better test DPT. First, propose defined precedes follows metacognitive control, respectively. Second, argue control be isolated using debiasing paradigms manipulate heuristics (e.g., processing fluency) prevent or trigger Third, monotonic allow us decisively DPT only when we use them analyse from particular kind paradigm.

Probabilistic Single Function Dual Process Theory and Logic Programming as Approaches to Non-monotonicity in Human vs. Artificial Reasoning

In this paper, it is argued that single function dual process theory is a more credible psychological account of non-monotonicity in human conditional reasoning than recent attempts to apply logic programming (LP) approaches in artificial intelligence to these data. LP is introduced and among other critiques, it is argued that it is psychologically unrealistic in a similar way to hash coding in...

A Dual Process Theory of Optimistic Cognition

Optimism is a prevalent bias in human cognition including variations like self-serving beliefs, illusions of control and overly positive views of one’s own future. Further, optimism has been linked with both success and happiness. In fact, it has been described as a part of human mental well-being which has otherwise been assumed to be about being connected to reality. In reality, only people s...

Metacognitive Process in Online Text Construction

Many studies have reported the results of how students constructed texts, yet the cognitive process of how texts were constructed by sentences and how the constructive process was formulated and reformulated have rarely been addressed. This study aims to develop a computer-aided text construction system which supports 83 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) university students in inserting sente...

Conflict and metacognitive control

Information about others’ success in remembering is frequently available. For example, students taking an exam may assess its difficulty by monitoring when others turn in their exams. In two experiments, we investigated how rememberers use this information to guide recall. Participants studied paired associates, some semantically related (and thus easier to retrieve) and some unrelated (and thu...

Dual-process theory and signal-detection theory of recognition memory.

Two influential models of recognition memory, the unequal-variance signal-detection model and a dual-process threshold/detection model, accurately describe the receiver operating characteristic, but only the latter model can provide estimates of recollection and familiarity. Such estimates often accord with those provided by the remember-know procedure, and both methods are now widely used in t...
